Takedown Policy
Last updated: 14 April 2026
We honour requests from families to remove or anonymise records of their deceased relatives. We also honour requests from submitters to delete their own personal data.
Who can request a takedown
- Immediate family members (spouse, child, parent, sibling, grandchild, grandparent) of the deceased.
- Authorised representatives (e.g. estate executor, legal guardian) with documentation.
- Submitters requesting deletion of their own personal data, even if the grave record itself remains public.
What we can remove
- An entire grave record — hidden from public view and hard-deleted after 30 days.
- One occupant from a multi-occupant grave.
- A photograph only (record kept without photo).
- Misinformation — corrected in place, change logged internally.
- Submitter PII — email, phone, and IP nulled from the submission record.
How to request
Email privacy@ziarah.sg with:
- Subject line: Takedown request — [deceased full name or plot number]
- The grave record URL or plot number.
- Your full name, relationship to the deceased, and contact phone.
- Proof of relationship — a document showing the relationship, or a statutory declaration if no document is available.
- The specific action you want.
- Optional: the reason.
We treat all documentation as confidential and delete it after the request is closed.
Response time
- Acknowledgement: within 3 working days.
- Decision and action: within 14 working days.
- Urgent cases (active harassment, defamation, legal order): within 48 hours.
When we may decline
We may decline a takedown if we cannot verify the requester's relationship, if the request comes from someone other than immediate family for an accurate non-defamatory record, or if removal would violate a legal order. In such cases, we will explain our reasoning and offer an appeal path.
